The tools for teaching in front
of a class just keep getting better.
Every teacher knows how hard it is to keep your student's
attention focused to the front of the classroom. Using technology
tools like PowerPoint and MasterPointer can be a great way
to liven up your lessons.
MasterPointer is an on-screen tool that lets teachers annotate,
mark and highlight their screen during class, drawing attention
to specific areas of the lesson content while screen sharing
or using a projector in front of the class. The spotlight,
which highlights a specific area while darkening the rest
of the screen, is a great way to show only the item that
you are discussing at the moment. A magnifying glass allows
the instructor to enlarge fine print or graphics so the
entire class can see details clearly. An on-screen 'yellow
highlighter' lets teachers mark up their screen just as
if they were using an electronic version of the real thing.
A good on-screen annotation product can be used with ANY
application that an instructor is running while presenting
to the classroom. One of the most popular applications for
organizing presentations, of course, is PowerPoint. Why
teach with PowerPoint and MasterPointer? Making your content
visual helps your students focus. Used to support a lecture,
PowerPoint and MasterPointer can provide the visual boost
that you need to help students focus their attention on
your lesson content.
While we were researching teaching tools on the web, we
found a great article by Northeastern University about teaching
with PowerPoint. This on-line workshop goes through the
advantages of using PowerPoint in the classroom and gives
step-by-step instructions on how to create a PowerPoint
presentation.
