What is the difference
between the license file from Altiris and the serial number
I just got from MasterSolution?
Vision has always been developed by MasterSolution AG in Switzerland,
but until recently was marketed in the U.S. exclusively by
Altiris under their name. As of spring 2003, Vision is once
again being sold and marketed under the MasterSolution name.
With this change has come a change of licensing, and this
is reflected in the program itself.
Altiris Vision uses a license file (i.e. av1234.zip or
av1234.lic) that only works when opened by the Altiris Vision
installer or the Altiris Vision Product Licensing Utility.
These licenses are always sent to you by Altiris, not MasterSolution.
If you have lost your Altiris license and you are a MasterSolution
customer, you may contact us. If your Annual Support Contract
is current, we can convert your Altiris Vision license to
a MasterSolution license that will work with all versions
of MasterSolution Vision posted at our website.
MasterSolution Vision is the same program, but with different
branding and licensing. All subsequent releases of Vision
will be in this form. MasterSolution Vision uses a serial
number instead of a license file; these serial numbers are
emailed to customers when they purchase or update the product.
BE SURE TO KEEP A COPY OF YOUR SERIAL NUMBER IN A SECURE
LOCATION so that you may access it for subsequent installations.
Updates to Vision will all be in the MasterSolution format
from May 2003 forward. If you are a customer who has a valid
Altiris Vision license and you require an update for technical
reasons, please contact us at ussupport@mastersolution.com
with your old Altiris license(s) attached and we will generate
a new MasterSolution serial number for you. Be sure to include
all appropriate information (Contact names, school/business
name, number of nodes) so that we can process your request.
Do I have to reinstall Vision
to apply a new license?
Note: this procedure only applies to Vision using the MasterSolution
licensing utility. If you have the Altiris version of Vision,
refer to the next question.
With the MasterSolution version 4.1 or higher of Vision
applying a license to an existing installation is easy:
- Go to “Start” –> “Programs” –> “MasterSolution”
–> “Product Licensing Utility”.
- A dialog box will appear displaying your current license(s).
- Enter your new serial number in the top area of the dialog
and click “Add”
- Click on “Close” to complete the process.
With any version previous to 4.1 you will need to reinstall
the Vision Master module to apply a new or updated license.
If Vision 4.1 is already installed you do not need to reinstall
it to change the license.
I have the
Altiris version of Vision. How do I apply, add or reapply
the license key to Altiris Vision?
Note: This procedure applies only to customers who have
the Altiris version of Vision and a license file received
directly from Altiris. If you have the MasterSolution version
of Vision and have a license code that was sent to you by
MasterSolution, please refer to Question 2.
With the version 4.1 of Altiris Vision:
- Go to “Start” –> “Programs” –> “Altiris” –>
“Product Licensing Utility”.
- At the first screen browse to and select the license file
(a file with extension of “.lic”, i.e. av1234.lic).
- Click on “Next” to advance to the "Activation Key
Information" screen.
- Click on “Next” to the list of programs to license (Vision.exe)
screen.
- At this screen check the box to "Replace all existing
license Activation Keys with the new Activation Key".
Note: If you are adding more nodes to your existing purchased
license (i.e. not an evaluation license) then DO NOT check
the "Replace all existing license Activation Keys with
the new Activation Key" box and this will just add
the new number of nodes instead of overwriting them.
- Click on “Finish” to complete the process.
With any Altiris Vision version previous to 4.1 you will
need to reinstall the Vision Master module to apply a new
or updated license. If Vision 4.1 is already installed you
do not need to reinstall it to change the license.
