Teacher-Selected Websites During Class
Surf-Lock2 gives teachers more control of web surfing

Now that school is back in session do you ever look around your classroom and wish that there was a way to restrict students to just the websites that pertain to the current lesson? Surf-Lock2, the new version of the popular Surf-Lock, can do just that.

In response to teachers’ requests for more control over Internet use to support learning, teachers using Vision6 classroom management software now have improved one-click control of student Internet access. Teachers will still be able to instantly turn web surfing off for the entire class, but now, with the new version, they will also be able to give students access to approved websites during class for completing assignments and doing research. Surf-Lock2 helps focus student attention by allowing only the sites appropriate for the current assignment. Adding sites to the teacher-approved list is as easy as saving a bookmark in your browser.

The added control in Surf-Lock2 will give teachers the ability to customize surfing for the entire class. Turn browsing off when needed or allow a specific group of students to access approved websites while giving others free browse time when appropriate.

Jeremy David, an English and social studies teacher at Prairie Creeks Charter School, Strasburg School District 31J, Colorado, had the opportunity to use Surf-Lock2 with his students. “Surf-Lock2 is a great tool to help focus student attention on the lesson by limiting their access to Web sites not related to instruction,” he said. “It is easy to use ‘white lists’ to select the sites that I want students to search by simply typing in the address of approved sites. Surf-Lock2 is invaluable at Prairie Creeks."

Surf-Lock2 works with multiple browsers in any learning environment where Vision6 is installed. Compatible with multiple browsers, Surf-Lock2 works with filtering software and does not require a server.

Surf-Lock2 is available to K-12 education customers for $3 per student computer, with a 10-computer minimum. K-12 site licenses start at $375. Surf-Lock customers with a valid Annual Support and Upgrade Protection agreement are eligible for a free upgrade.
