Announcing App-Control - Continued
GenevaLogic just announced the first classroom product to give teachers ‘real-time’ control over student applications. App-Control will be available on April 12th and is already receiving rave reviews. Teachers beta-testing in the field are reporting great success using this software in their classrooms. App-Control allows any teacher, with just a few mouse clicks, to launch and lock applications on student computers.

How does it work?
App-Control is a new plug-in for Vision6 that helps instructors focus student attention by confining computer work to teacher-selected applications only during lesson time. Imagine being able to send out a test and know that the students can only work in the chosen application until they are finished. App-Control removes the distractions of surfing, email, games and chat during important class assignments. With App-Control an instructor can choose one or more applications and launch them on every student computer from the teacher’s machine. Those applications can then be locked into ‘Kiosk’ mode so student computer activity is restricted to only the teacher-approved applications. What makes App-Control unique from other products that restrict applications is this ability to ‘Kiosk’ student computers so students can access one or several applications chosen by the teacher, but only those applications until the teacher releases his/her computer.

The other thing that sets App-Control apart is the ability to control applications in real-time. Instead of just using a static list of restricted programs that students can open at any time, App-Control lets teachers choose one or more applications that are specific to the current lesson and send them out to all students or a group of students. Teachers can also release any computer or group of computers from the restrictions at any time or launch a different set of applications for the class.

App-Control also saves time in the classroom with advanced features like the ability to open documents for the entire class right from the teacher’s desktop. Any document can be sent out and opened on every student computer. App-Control also works great for websites. Instead of the frustration of students trying to type in long, complicated URLs, the instructor can put the entire class on the same web page instantly.
