1. What is the difference between the Toolbar and the Dashboard?
The Vision6 toolbar is a floating toolbar designed specifically for the teacher’s desktop from which several management and teaching functions can be accomplished. Because Vision can be used to teach any subject, instructors often need to access lesson materials on their desktop or demonstrate the current software showing on their computer to the class. That’s where the toolbar comes in. Instead of opening the Vision Dashboard, which might cover the current application being shown, teachers can simply move their mouse to the top of their screen and access the much smaller toolbar to share screens and manage the classroom computers. The toolbar floats unobtrusively at the top of the teacher’s screen and slides out of the way when not in use so it’s perfect for demonstrating to the class without getting in the way of the current lesson.
2. How can I move the Surf-Lock icon on my Toolbar?
You can move the Surf-Lock icon or any icon on your toolbar easily:
- Hold down the ‘Shift’ key on your keyboard
- Click on the button that you want to move with your mouse
- Drag the button to another location on the toolbar and release
3. Can I remove buttons so I have just the ones I want?
Sure, just right-click on the button that you would like to remove and select ‘Remove Button’. If you need to later put those buttons back or want to explore additional buttons for your toolbar, see our hint below for adding new buttons to your toolbar.
4. Can I change the appearance of my Vision6 Toolbar?
Change the size of the icons
Right-click on the area of the toolbar that you would like to change and look for ‘Show Big Icons’ in the menu. The icons are large by default after you install Vision. If you would like to make your buttons smaller, uncheck it and your buttons will appear smaller.

Reposition the Toolbar
Grab the outer edge of the toolbar with your mouse and pull the toolbar to a different location. You can make the toolbar appear on the sides of your screen or the bottom of your screen or even float as a pallette in the middle of your screen.
Change when the Toolbar shows up
If you want your toolbar to always show up on your desktop, you can right-click on the toolbar and uncheck ‘autohide’. Then your toolbar will not slide when you take your mouse away. You can also make the toolbar hide behind other applications by unchecking ‘Always on Top’ in that menu.

New User Hint: Are you new to Vision or working with a teacher who is new? One great idea is to right-click on the toolbar and choose ‘Show Text Labels’ to display the names for each of the toolbar buttons. This can really help when you are learning to use Vision.
5. How can I add features to my Vision6 Toolbar?
Did you know that you can change your Vision buttons or add features from other GenevaLogic prouducts into your toolbar? Here is how you do it:
- Just right-click on the Toolbar to display the menu and select ‘Customize’.

- Select any GenevaLogic product tool category that appears in the ‘Command Categories’ list on the left side.

- The buttons for that product will appear on the right side.
- Just grab the button with your mouse and drag it up to your toolbar
6. Can I stop the toolbar from dropping down when I mouse over it?
To disable the Vision toolbar so it does not show up on your desktop, right-click the toolbar and choose ‘Close the Shortcut Bar’. If you just want the toolbar to show up all of the time on your desktop but not drop down when you put your mouse over it, right-click on the Vision toolbar and uncheck ‘Auto Hide’.
