GenevaLogic Launches New Knowledge Base
The Knowledge Base is a web-based support center that enables customers to easily find answers to frequently asked questions about GenevaLogic products at any hour of the night or day. It contains information that can help ensure a smooth installation and get you up and running quickly and easily.

Troubleshooting problems becomes simpler because the Knowledge Base contains information on the common issues that customers may encounter in a variety of classroom and laboratory environments. The answers to your questions are easy to find because the Knowledge Base is organized by categories, and also includes a Search capability. The dynamic capabilities of the Knowledge Base will enable GenevaLogic to continually add new information to better serve our customers needs. If you have comments, or a question you would like to see added to the Knowledge Base, please contact Kate Lopresti.

You can find the Knowledge Base in the support section of the GenevaLogic website, or access it directly at www.genevalogic.com/index.php?id=us-knowledgebase.

Free Tool for Vision Customers
Quit Applications on Students’ Computers
Would you like to be able to shut down all the applications that are running on your students’ computers at the end of a class period, or before moving on to the next stage of a lesson? GenevaLogic has developed a simple applet that will allow you to do just that from the Vision toolbar in one easy step. You can download this applet for free from the GenevaLogic website and install it by following the directions below. You'll find the download link at the bottom of this page.

(Insider Tip: If you like this applet, you will LOVE the new App-Control plug-in for Vision that GenevaLogic is developing. Look for more information on this product in March, or contact us now if you are interested in becoming a beta tester.)

The applet allows a teacher to close all the open applications and windows on student desktops from the Vision console or dashboard. It works with any version of Vision using the “Run Application” function. It’s a quick and easy way to clear student’s virtual desktop during or after class.

How to Install the “Close All Applications” Applet

  1. Download the Applet (see link below).
  2. Put a copy of the CApp.exe file on every student computer that the teacher wants to be able to close applications and windows. The file should be copied to a common directory on all student computers, such as c:\windows. The file must be in the same location on every student’s computer.
  3. If you want to test the applet before running on the student computers, copy the applet to your own desktop, open a couple of applications and then run the applet from the desktop.

How to Use the “Close All Applications” Applet

  1. Select the student computers in the Vision console (version 5 or earlier) or Dashboard (Vision6 or later) whose desktop you want to clear. If you want to clear all student desktops don’t select any computers.
  2. Click on the “Run Application” button in the Vision toolbar.
  3. In the window that appears, type C:\windows\CApp.exe (assuming "windows" is the directory you copied the file to on the student computers) in the “Open” text box and click on the OK button. The CApp.exe file will be executed on the student computers and will close all open windows and applications on the desktop. If there is an open file that requires saving, the window will not be closed and the standard Save File dialog box will appear asking the student if they want to save the file before the window is closed.
  4. After you run the applet the first time using the “Run Applications” feature you can simply select c:\windows\CApp.exe from the drop down list in the Run Application “Open” text box for future executions of the applet.
