Active Teacher Spotlight
GenevaLogic recently announced our new ‘Active Teacher Spotlight’. This new web feature recognizes outstanding teachers all over the world and gets ‘under the hood’ of why teachers choose this demanding profession.

Shawn VareyOur very first Active Teacher was Shawn Varey from Marlette High School in Marlette, Michigan. We interviewed Shawn about what motivates him to teach and he told us that his dad was a teacher and his dedication to his students inspired Shawn to become one also. Shawn uses Vision in his classroom and tells us “I use Vision whenever I want to show, explain, or demonstrate how to use a program or preview new material to my students. I find the students learn faster and comprehend more when they can be taught visually”.

Dean DentonAnother honoree in the spotlight this month is Dean Denton of Broken Arrow Senior High School in Oklahoma. About his decision to teach, Dean simply says “I always wanted to be a teacher, I just always knew that teaching was my calling” He even tried other professions but came back to teaching because he missed working with students. Dean feels his greatest accomplishment was becoming a National Board Certified Teacher, Career and Technical Education. Dean uses Vision and Surf-Lock in his classroom and told us “My students, at first, were not happy with me blocking the Internet and being able to somewhat control their computers. When they realized what Vision could do, they were really interested in exploring the features and now ask me to ‘take over’ their computers to show them how to perform a task.”
